I wrote an article last week for the Yahoo! Developer Network about the recent addition of Delicious data in Yahoo! BOSS search results.
Delicious allows users to save their favorite web sites, add tags for easier discovery, and share them with friends and others. This creates a directory that’s an honest reflection of what sites are important, informational, and entertaining. Yahoo! BOSS + Delicious gives you more control over relevancy. Let’s look at a couple possible examples.
Meet the new BOSS…
BOSS gives you a surprisingly well rounded data set when you combine the Searchmonkey data, keyterms, and Delicious view attributes. I was especially surprised by the non-overlapping tags Delicious users gave to pages and the keyterms Yahoo! has associated with a page.
Delicious’s human generated data also lets you cut through spam and RSS consolidating sites that appear in normal search results.

Find out how to use BOSS to build a search engine at the upcoming “YDN Tuesday: Build Your Own Search Service” presentation in London. The presentation will be on Tuesday June 2, 2009 at 6:30pm at the Skills Matter office in London. Sign up today at the Skills Matter web site.
This is a brief introduction:
Yahoo! BOSS, Build your Own Search Service, is an API that gives developers access to Yahoo’s search index. Unlike similar search API’s, BOSS gives you much more control over how you use the data. You can mash it with other sources, re-order the ranking, change the appearance, or do whatever it takes to make your site special.
Find out how to use BOSS to build sites, tools, and modules.
This presentation will cover the web service, data options, and show examples of how BOSS is used by various sites and tools.
